From Valencia to the U.K.
David Macias Navarro, 33 | Photographer
I migrated to Bournemouth in March 2013 but I am currently residing in Bristol (England).
At the end of 2012 I lost my job, one where I had wasted ten years of my life and which was of course related to construction. So I decided to go back to school and take up something that I was really passionate about, photography. I enrolled in the Espai d’art fotogràfic school in Valencia and in my second year I received one of the five scholarships awarded at the Albarracín Photography Festival directed by Gervasio Sánchez and Sandra Balsells for my work entitled “Desatino Levantino”(Levantino Foolishness) in 2012. After that I did a specialization course in documentary photography at the Blank Paper school also located in Valencia.
Seeing that the job perspectives for photographers in Spain were extremely poor, I decided to emigrate to England and start on a new photographic project entitled Banishment, which I presented at the 2013 Albarracín Seminar. But I wanted to continue with my artistic investigation, so I am still immersed in this project that I combine with a day job at a restaurant.
